John Davis 5Km Memorial

The John Davis Run is a 5km run race taking place on Sunday March 29th at 11am in the grounds of Malahide Castle. John Davis was a huge figure in Irish athletics over the past 20+ years who sadly passed away in 2007.
John worked with many clubs throughout his time in the sport and we are staging the race to honour his incredible input and commitment. All money raised from entries and sponsorship will go to the Irish Cancer Society. Last years event saw 250 people partake and this year we are looking to double that figure and our aim is to raise over €10,000 for the Irish Cancer Society.

Great Ethiopian Run 2009

On 22 November 2009 Addis Ababa will play host to Africa’s biggest road race – a challenging 10km at 10,000 feet above sea level – an altitude that will certainly test your physical condition.
They say over 30,000 runners will take part! They include a whole package with a accomodation, travel, a tour etc. They ask that you raise 3000 Euro for the charity. That would be a significant donation to make.

All-athletics.com

www.all-athletics.com is a new athletics website. it looks pretty impressive. It is multi-lingual and is free with registration. I haven't registered yet but the news service looks good with articles that would interest real athletes. I've subscribed to several 'Athletics' news services and have been always disappointed by the low quality and irrelevance of the articles. The also seem to have good statistics, results and multimedia sections. I'm off to register!

Update: It is not free.. The free trial period is only 36 hours!! The cost of membership is 4 Euro for 5 days and 79 Euro for a year with other membership packages in between.

New Irish Monthly Ezine

Run Direct- 'THE FREE ALL-IRISH RUNNING MAGAZINE THAT ARRIVES, PANTING, IN YOUR INBOX'

Well I got notice of this just today but with no link, and no other evidence of its actual existence who knows.. The text of the notice is included below. I like that they're planning on making it free!

New monthly e-zine for runners of all shapes and sizes :

A new monthly athletics e-zine will provide runners all over Ireland with information about the sport they love – and it will be absolutely free of charge.

The new e-zine is being launched by two Mayo men – Mark Scanlon and Liam Horan – in mid-April. Mark and Liam are both keen runners, with Mark something of an endurance man – last year he ran seven marathons in seven different continents over seven months.

But just in case that achievement scares people into thinking our new e-zine is solely targeted at people who can run forever,” interjects Liam, “I am at the other end of the scale. “Mark has a body fat count that barely registers on the scale. I have a much fuller figure, which brings it own, er, challenges when running. So, between the two of us, we feel we can bring out an e-zine that will appeal to all shapes and sizes.“I recently completed two 8ks, my first races in over 20 years, and my aim is to break 40 minutes this year for that distance. Modest stuff!”

Runners – speedsters and the more leisurely-paced – can sign up for the e-zine by emailing. Each month, the e-zine will be emailed to subscribers in medium resolution, so it won’t clog up their inboxes. They can then read it on their personal computer, or print off and peruse by more traditional means.

“There is no catch here. The e-zine is free. It will have reports, features, photographs, and many other items relating to running in Ireland. We want people to subscribe now by emailing us, and to tell their athlete friends about it,” added Mark.

“The e-zine will carry coaching tips and invite readers to share their experiences. Athletes should sign up now and look forward to the first edition mid-April.”
